Do you live with chronic pain, and want an accessible way to connect with others outside of medical discussions?
The Listening Club for People with Chronic Pain was designed to meet this need. It allows participants to meet online for an hour each week, to talk about music with other people living with chronic pain. The group is focused on social connection and musical discussion, and is facilitated by a music teacher with chronic pain.
Each week’s meeting will have a musical theme, for example “music from your childhood,” or “music from another part of the world.” Participants will be given the option to volunteer ahead of time to bring in a theme-related song to share with the group. During the weekly online meeting, the group will listen to participants’ selected songs, and discuss their thoughts, observations, and feelings.
This group class is designed to be as accessible as possible to people with chronic pain:
- The class meets online rather than in person, so you can attend from home and sit, stand, or lay however you like.
- Participants will be provided with online backgrounds so that they do not feel any pressure to present a tidy view of their home in their video window.
- There is no at-home work or practice required to participate in the class
- Musical experience is not required to participate in the class.
- The class is focused on listening and discussing, so you can participate at whatever level your pain, brain fog, fatigue, and other symptoms allow.
- The fee for this class is significantly reduced compared to other group lessons, in recognition of the employment challenges faced by people with chronic pain, as well as the many expenses involved in medical treatment and pain management.
The Listening Club for People with Chronic Pain will begin in November 2025. Please note that this is a music class provided by a music teacher, not a therapeutic class provided by a healthcare provider.
