Music Theory

Music Theory Lessons

Have you ever wondered why your favourite song sounds the way it does?

Music theory gives us new ways to understand the music we play and listen to. It gives us a vocabulary for talking about music with other musicians, and it gives us new tools to apply as we write and play music. Music theory lessons can cover a wide variety of concepts, including the following:

  • Notation
  • Intervals
  • Rhythm
  • Scales
  • Chords
  • Melody writing
  • Chord progressions
  • Songwriting
  • Composing
  • Improvising
